Antonino "Nino" Laquidara

Antonino "Nino" Laquidara, 90, a longtime resident of Kingston, NY, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2020, in the comforting presence of his loving wife and family at the home of his daughter, Adelina (Guy) Miller in Port St. Lucie, FL. He was born on July 8, 1930 in Sicily, a son of the late Carmelo and Carmela (Modica) Laquidara. Nino married the love of his life, Nancy Rovereto, on June 1, 1953. They immigrated to the US in 1966, while Nancy was expecting her 8th child, Linda, (who was their first born child in America), along with their seven children. They lived with Nancy's parents, and aunt Tindora Roverto, on Hanratty Street in Kingston, NY, eventuality moving to Foxhall Avenue, where they resided until 2017. He, and his wife, were longtime parishioners of St. Mary's Church in Kingston. In Sicily, he was employed as home builder and jewelry maker. He also worked in Switzerland, Germany and France. In the US he worked in the Kingston knitting mills until his retirement. He and Nancy also operated a child day care for many years. He loved being outdoors, especially picnics on "Sunday family days". He and his wife loved to entertain, and were a big part of the area's Italian community. Nino was a known as a quiet man, but when he spoke he "meant what he said, and said what he meant". His smile would light up any room. In addition to his wife of 67 years, Nancy, he leaves behind to cherish his memories his ten children, Carmela (Terry) Scarsella of Daytona Beach, FL, Santo (Agnes) Laquidara of Saugerties, Adelina (Guy) Miller of Port St. Lucie, FL, Maria (Ernie) Vandemark of Modena, Santina (Chuck) Mayo of Calabash, NC, Tindora (Willis Williamson) Smith of Kingston, Pippo "Joe" Laquidara of Saugerties, Linda Laquidara of Orlando, FL, Gina Smith of NY, Carmello "Mello" (Julie) Laquidara of East Greenbush, NY., one sister, Antonina Laquidara of Sicily, one brother, Miguelino Laquidara of Germany, 22 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews and cousins, in America, Germany and Sicily also survive. He is predeceased by one grandchild and brothers and sisters.
