Donald J. Pick, son of Joseph and Loretta (Otto) Pick was born January 21, 1926 near Breda, Iowa. He attended and graduated from St. Bernard Schools.  On January 22, 1946 Don was united in marriage with Willa Mae Poen at Breda, Iowa.

Don experienced a full life.  He was the owner-operator of Pick Grain Company. Also, he was able to balance farming, cattle buying, and raising a family of eight children.  Don was known for his analytic capabilities and possessed a solid spiritual side as well. His devotion to his children and grandchildren was routinely expressed.  He was a very caring and generous individual.

Don enjoyed traveling with his wife, Willa Mae, paying close attention to the Chicago Cubs, and the commodities markets.  Poker playing was also a consistent past time. It would be difficult to estimate how many ball games he and his wife, Willa Mae, enjoyed watching their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren play.

He passed away on January 25, 2008 at Saint Anthony Hospital, Carroll, Iowa, from general systemic complications. He was 82 years and 4 days of age. Don will be remembered not so much from what he accomplished but more from what kind of man he was.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Ray Polking.

He is survived by his wife, Willa Mae, of Carroll; sons: William Pick and wife Patsy of Cedar Falls; Joseph Pick and wife Elise of Carroll; Douglas Pick and wife Rachel of West Des Moines; Donald  Pick Jr. and wife Marge of Carroll and Robert Pick and wife Shelly of Jacksonville, Florida; daughters: Debra Marqusee of Sioux City; Kay and husband Gerry Blessington of Auburn; and Diane and husband Jim Harrington of West Des Moines;  22 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; brother Kenneth Pick and wife Verma Jean of Kiron; sister-in-law Doreen Polking of Breda; other relatives and many friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the St. Lawrence Sister Parish in Haiti
